Budgets. Who needs them?
This week the Federal Liberals presented their Fall Budget Review containing dollar figures so big, the numbers in word form use less space than listing all the zeros.
The country’s debt is at $1.6 Trillion, or $1,600,000,000,000.
The interest on that debt is $60 Billion, or $60,000,000,000.
See what I mean? But, wait… there’s more!!!
Despite the country being beyond insolvent by any standard, there was yet another $20.8 Billion in new spending announced. Money that will go toward things like rental and co-op housing along with… drum roll, please… an electric vehicle battery plant.
The Finance Minister attempted to console her lowly subjects, the taxpayer, who will be funding all these budget items.
“…I really recognize that with interest rates having gone up very quickly, there are many, many Canadians who are ... concerned about being able to afford to stay in their own homes," Freeland told reporters. "What we're saying today is we understand this is a challenging situation and we are here to help."
A year ago, people were living in homes they could afford. Homes they bought without any government help. Now they can’t afford their home because the Liberals continued their train wreck through previous budgets and the economy, creating all kinds of inflation, and screwed the banking system with it.
Tucked in the Review is a ‘Mortgage Charter’ which looks to be more of a rules and regulations suggestion box. Oddly, the conversation always circles back to the government ‘building affordable housing’. The Finance Minister acknowledges many are ‘concerned about being able to afford to stay in their own homes.’ A curious choice of words. As I’ve said before, governments don’t make good landlords.
Most government officials have never known any type of want or poverty. High ranking ones have every need provided. When they claim to understand the challenges you’re facing, that is an insult. When a high-ranking government official says they are ‘here to help’, that is down right scary. Those infamous words continue to haunt me, “we’ll take on the debt so you don’t have to…” What we’re experiencing today is a result of that.
"We are ensuring that Canada's finances remain sustainable — because that is how we will be able to continue investing in Canadians for years to come," Freeland said.
When interest payments dwarf military spending the country’s finances are not sustainable.
When the federal government says unemployment could rise to 7% that is not sustainable. Sure, the money being spent on the battery plant will provide 1,500 jobs building batteries for cars no one wants, but those jobs are not for Canadians. Those are for South Koreans, for which the Liberals blame Harper, which is just stupid.
Housing is unaffordable and there isn’t enough, yet for some reason we’re bringing in 500,000 more immigrants next year. That’s in addition to the 500,000 this year, not to mention the estimated million that are here illegally that authorities don’t know who or where they are.
Perhaps the food bank lines just aren’t long enough yet. Though I suppose it could be argued all these tent cities across the country are carbon neutral. Maybe that’s what she meant by ‘investing in Canadians’. We’ll hit net zero one tarp roof at a time!!
Cuts were mentioned, but who knows where. Doubtful it’s the Prime Ministers travel budget, because he doesn’t have one. Nor the Governor General’s overextended travel and shopping sprees.
“Canada is not broken…” Freeland said.
Except it is because the Liberals broke it. They broke it by breaking the people within it. Here in Alberta alone the Liberals broke companies, families, lives and futures. Granted, they had help when we accidentally put the NDP in power provincially. Businesses shuttered en mass resulting in a mass exodus to the States. The UCP under Kenney also helped by mandating everything he possibly could, bringing it all together with a vaccine passport. But apart from those two outliers, the Liberals broke and continue to break Albertans at every opportunity. The good news is, although Canada is broken, we are not.
There are many who believe a federal conservative government will be the answer to our woes. Unfortunately, it won’t. The damage done is beyond their ability to fix. The only way to preserve ourselves is to initiate the following:
- Alberta Pension Plan
- Alberta Police Force
- Alberta Unemployment Insurance
- Alberta Immigration Office
- Alberta Revenue Agency and Tax Collection Office
- Alberta Based trade agreements
We secure these six, made in Alberta, attributes within a thoroughly laid out Alberta Charter and we’re well on our way. Once that is complete, only one noose remains around our neck: equalization. We already know the federal government finds a referendum on such things laughable. Even the federal Conservatives aren’t friendly to it. Which then leaves us no other option than to take the final step.
Independence.
